In this confused age of feminism, it can be hard for women to truly feel at ease with living according to their natural, God-given instincts or gender role. Many who desire to do so, can oftentimes feel stifled, even a little intimidated by those who do not place any value on being feminine. Feminism has so ingrained society with a negative viewpoint of femininity - just look at how the world views stay-at-home moms! I suspect there are many women who are not living the way they want to live, as feminine women. What do I mean by that? I mean that they have been squeezed into a particular mold to suit this world's system and standards. These women, (who by God's grace have not lost their femininity) would love to walk around in feminine dresses and skirts, long flowing feminine dresses and skirts, maybe even flowery feminine dresses and skirts! If mothers, they would love to be stay at home mums. They'd love to knit, sew or crochet or make their own clothes, but because of the false values of society, and pressure from others many women deny these natural desires and basically fall in line with everybody else so as not to feel out of place. It is sad when any woman feels that she can't express her true femininity in today's society. But it is even sadder when Christian women lose their femininity. How many Christian women know how to be truly feminine? If a woman is feminine, it should be an absolute joy to sit and discuss things like homemaking, dressmaking, knitting, crocheting, childcare, men (in a complimentary, uplifting and discreet way!) and all other feminine pursuits. (maybe not all, it depends on the individual's interests) These things are just a joy to talk about. But today, how many women want to talk about things like this? I briefly mentioned talking about men, but ladies, may I just remind you, man-bashing is not feminine behaviour! As the weaker sex we are called to be in submission to our husbands (if we have one), and if we are unhappy with any aspect of our husbands behavour, we need to take that to the Lord in prayer, not broadcast it to others. That is called gossip, and gossip is dishonourable. As Christian women, we need to guard against the 'masculinization' of women in today's society. Our femininity is a gift from God, we need to treasure it. As Christian women, let us rejoice in our God-given gift of femininity by joyfully choosing to stay feminine, choosing to dress in a way that is modest and protects, and in doing so, bring glory to God by proclaiming His beauty. "Let the beauty of the Lord be upon us."
(Psalm 90:17)
